Hiya everyone, I know it's a long shot, but I'm wondering if anyone can suggest what string to go for, for tuning my bass to G#C#G#C#?
It's a 34" scale, so I was thinking I'd need something pretty damn beefy. I've looked at Circle Ks, & they seem like a good bet, I was thinking maybe the set with a .174?
Just wondering if anyone's got any experience with this tuning, cus my strings feel floppy as hell! :crying:

Sorry to go against the word of the knuckle, he is 'the man' for low tunings, but this tuning is 4th-5th-4th not a drop tuning :)
DannyBlueOrigin, what's your fav E gauge? Look up the tension of it on the CKS tension chart Link Removed and choose your G#C#G#C# gauges to have the same tension, ask me to check if you're not sure. These strings will need a top loading bridge.

I wasn't sure on if it was technically a drop tuning or not, I just tend to refer to it as "drop LOW" to anyone who asks :bassist:
Thanks for the advice, I normally use a .115 for my E string. I can't wait to try some thicker strings, hopefully I'll bloody sound good!
Hopefullt aswell there shouldn't be a problem with the bridge, unless the Gibson bridge just decides to flick me off on this.

The taper on CK strings is for very good reason very short, so you need a top load bridge with a fairly standard distance from ball end to saddle, also preferably slotted top load because a big string may not fit through a hole, but in that case you could machine that hole bigger. Gibson bridge? Oh dear sounds old fashioned but it might work, retro bridges are usually incompatible with huge strings. If you're unsure if the bridge is suitable post a close up pic so we can see.

So you like the tension of a .115 tuned to E or when tuned to C#?
Well, I like it when it's tuned to the E, even though it's been too long since I last played with an E.

What kind of stuff do you play in that tuning?
We're just playing original hard rock, but I'm very inspired by doom & hardcore music, so, I tend to add abit of that vibe with my bass playing.
