A thread on another forum about what strings to get for an old Airline pocket bass made me think the obvious answer was to get the strings for an Ibanez Mikro. A subsequent search came up dry as to strings for the Mikros, 4 or 5. What are Mikro owners using to replace strings on their instruments ?
I use GHS Bass Boomers/Short Scale: Light: .045 .060 .075 .095. I bought them online from Bass Strings Online. The owner is a TB member and the cost with shipping was $ 21.43. They are round wounds, which I prefer. There is a Ibanez Mikro forum on TB. Check it out.
you can choose to select from the VERY LIMITED selection of short scale strings offered by a very small percentage of the string manufacturers out there or, you can choose from the VAST ARRAY of any & every long scale string maker in the world, with, a simple mod to the MIKRO there are options
As far as I can tell, BSO has 30 options for short scale strings from at least 8 manufacturers, between steel and nickel rounds, pressurewounds, halfrounds, flatwounds, and tapewounds. Plus 3 piccolo options.
I put the short-scale GHS Pressurewounds on mine. IMO they're a big improvement over the stock strings.
I would think the already subtle differences between steel and nickel strings would pretty much vanish on a super short scale bass like the Mikro.
Still looking for a good 5-string set. Per Ibanez recommendation, I got a set DR Hi-Beam Stainless Steel short scale strings (SMR5-45). I just put them on and the B string sounds really bad. Like it's got way too much harmonics going on. Anyone find any really good sounding 5-strings sets for the Mikro?
