Strings for Yamaha BB714 BS ....?

I bow to all bass people!
I bought a guitar with almost new D'Addario steel... I didn't really like the "zing dong" of the strings and the quick loss of "power" and the feeling of playing/under the fingers... I searched the forum and decided on... unknown to me Dunlop Nickiel Wound... Ehhh... again too much buzzing and porosity of the strings which I don't really like... I keep writing about my feelings and playing at home with a combo and headphones...
I'm not a bass player who likes glass, zingg ringing or hi-fi super high sound, but I don't want total mud either....
Maybe I was guided by the fact that I had Rotosound Swing 66 as the first strings on my first guitar (Fender Urge and medium), and when they quickly faded... in a frenzy... I decided to use... Thomastik JF324... And I was lost... The sound, a matter of taste, because the luthier said it was totally old school/without any ringing or high-pitched sounds, and he turned up his nose, but I ignored his taste... Well, yes. back then, I was playing the old Ohio Players, James Brown, etc. and it was like honey to my ears...;) I was lost, but I was also lost because of how the strings stuck to my fingers, how heavenly I felt when I played them, and the tension was wonderful/ not stiff...Feeling fantastic. So I left Thomastk on this Urge... Now I have a second paddle, Yamaha BB714BS, and something about other strings still doesn't give me satisfaction... Of course, I don't want to play only soul/funk/Motown/Stax etc., but also other types of music... So the question is about the strings that will fit in your fingers, just like the Thomastik JF344 Jazz Flat Wound. But the question is whether this guitar won't become too big, unreadable mud?

I can't change the strings every 5 minutes because I can't afford constant experiments...
I know there are also:

Rotosound Jazz Bass 77 Monel flatwound...(?)

Do you have any experiences and suggestions?

From what it sounds like you're after, maybe GHS Pressurewounds? If you like the TI flats in terms of feel, maybe the light set of Pressurewounds.
Ho! Thanks for your suggestion! Can you send me a picture of the packaging or option pictures of EXACTLY the strings you have in mind...?
I see that there are no such strings on my auction site... I'm looking but I can't find anything...

I think it's about these...GHS ML7200...

I'm sitting in front of the computer and searching.

What a disappointment... I can't locate them in my country.....
Maybe any other suggestions?

☹️

You should get the Pressurewoud L7200 set (40-96) if you like the feel of TI Jazz Flats. That's the set I use on one of my Fender J's.

GHS PW 40-96 (500x500).jpg

Thanks to you too, Michael... 🙋‍♂️ I didn't mention that I don't stroke the strings or caress them, I just like playing with different articulations... Sometimes I pluck harder when I feel like it...;) Are these strings good for "strong fingers"?

GHS Pressurewound 44-102 radically different in the sound and feel of the strings than 40-096?

Very little difference in terms of tone but there is a difference in feel (= stiffness). The Pressurewounds are stiffer than typical hex-core rounds. 44-102 would feel more like 45-105 in rounds, and 40-96 would feel more like 40-100 in rounds.

It's great that you provided this comparative, detailed information! But are there really so few Thomastik substitutes?
I will write to our national GHS distributor about these 40 - 96...Thanks! ✌️

Of course, I can buy Thomastik, but as I understand it, these GHS are... manually very similar but... brighter?

I wouldn't compare the Pressurewouds to the TI as they are very different from each other in their tonal character as well as overall feel.

PWs are all about tight, punchy lows with "crunchy" mids. Alloy 52 (nickel-iron), combined with the "rollerwound" outer wrap, makes them very unique both in tone and feel.

This will be my first choice if I can find it! These "crunchy mids" may be what I'm looking for on the generally tonally dark, bombastic Yamaha 714.. Thanks for the advice!

Unfortunately... GHS Pressurewound is not even available in wholesalers

I don't know what to wear...

I live in Canada, so shipping cost is always of concern. I've found Strings By Mail (based in the US) is one of the best dealers for me to order strings from for being "reasonable" in terms of overall cost.

I would suggest you get in touch with Matt there at [email protected] and inquire about the cost of ordering from them. They do ship internationally, but it's a question of what cost where you are.

Yamaha BB714BS

on this bass I have the Rotosound BS66, Billy Sheehan set, and I love them :D IMHO this bass works well with strings that have lot of mids, like Rotosound Swing66.

I don't think so, and the bass can be worked with the equalization if needed. mine is always equalized "Sheehan style", with the basses rolled off and the mid bumped, and it's a killer bass I use in most of my "generic" projects like "generic cover band" or "songwriter with a generic style" that don't require anything particular.
this is mine with just the neck pickup:

Thank you very much! I will write and ask about shipping to Europe... Maybe they will be available for sale in the meantime... If there is a problem, I will look for something other than the GHS ones... Thanks for the info!

Thanks Pier! ✌️

Rotos 66 Round/generally rough, steel rounds are not what I like under my fingers/..that's why I asked about a similar tactile sensation as Thomastik JF344 Jazz Flat Wound... 🤠

As I wrote, I'm looking for a compromise: "Strings that stick to your fingers, like the TI JF344. Without that typical round "zing zong bzzz zding" BUT a little brighter than JF344, because Yamaha 714 is the dark side of the force.. (Besides, the darkness is confirmed by your video... You have Rotosound 66s and cut bass (?) and it sounds, for me, almost like... dub reggae.../yes, i know, is neck pickup but..) ;)

in this case, there were no cuts, just straight to the soundcard.

I would suggest, if you like TI jazz flats, the TI jazz rounds, which have a similar tension and feel (just a bit less hard, being round), but they are smooth and kind of "compression wound":

they sound brighter than the flats, with a nice mid presence.

Well, there's very little information about them, and even less... positive information... I even read on TalkBass that someone's hands and fingers were damaged by Round Thomastik...:eek::eek:👀 I'm intrigued by these strings... The price is sky high, but maybe it's worth it? Do you know how long they last?

Generally, I still have cheap strings to check, I know they are far from my preferences, Thomastik jazz, but the price is encouraging... (15 bucks for a set...) And they will probably be brighter ;) ... Have you had any experience with them?
