Strings sound hollow

Well, a month ago I boiled my EB Hybrid Slinky's and they sounded hollow, and like..tin. Slapping sounded awful. Today I purchased a new set of EB Super Slinky's and they sound this way too. Is it because they're new, is it a set up problem, or am I crazy?

Try another brand of strings.

If it still sounds the same, it's the bass. If it sounds good, it's the EB strings.

The hybrid slinkies are steel, the supers are nickel. You should be able to hear some discernible difference. I'd venture a guess that it's the bass or your EQing. What is your bass? Amp? How do you have your amp EQ'd?
