strings

Ok I want to know if anyone has done this or if anyone sees a problem with this. I want to put the lowest 4 strings of a 5 string set (B E A D) on my LTD. Im thinking about getting a 5 string but i don't want to buy it and relize i hate it a month later.

What do you have against G-strings?

nothing against g-strings i just never really got to jam with a b string. i've tooled around with them at music stores but i want to know if i like having it while i gig.

That is a great idea. I tried it once before I had the $$ for a 5 string. The problem is that your nut is cut to fit normal strings. You would have to replace or re-cut the nut to make the much larger strings fit. I didn't realize this until I was about to bring the strings up to pitch. OOPS!
My solution at the time? Boss Octave pedal. Used, like $50. You don't need the really low notes most of the time anyway, so I just set the octave pedal to emphasize the lower octave and when I wanted the notes I kicked on the pedal. This can make for some interesting tap dancing, but is really fun when you get into the challenge of it. Hope this helps you.

There's been threads on this subject, it can be done. Like what was mentioned earlier about the nut, you better file the grooves to fit the larger gauge or else, CRACK!! your gonna have some problems.

I've done it, and it's great, but you have to file the nut for the bigger strings, so there's no going back unless you replace the nut.

The nut isn't the only thing that needs tweaking, intonation for example goes obviously out of whack and the bridge isn't always far enough to compensate.
