Double Bass strings

As a grade schooler, Jeff Beck strung up his guitar with piano wire.

Only if you have a 1/10 size bass. The strings aren't long enough.

I believe Jeff Beck used piano wire later on to, to get a different sound. I too am curious why you'd want to put EB strings on a DB, unless it's just a cost issue

If I put DB strings side by side with DB strings - the difference is huge - they are ridiculously different!

The BG strings wouldn't reach and are just so much thinner.

I once got a test set od double bass strings from a korean manufacturer (Olympia Guitars WBS630). Since they have been to short for my 4/4 acoustic bass, I put them on my Stagg EUB. They sounded really like electric bass strings (but are flatwounds). I asked the guy who gave them to me about that and he responded that they usually make electric guitar and bass strings and tried a similar construction for the double bass strings.

So, if I ever play Birdland on (E)UB again I can use these strings...

If you want to try roundwound strings, you might want to have a look at the NXT EUB strings.
