stuck in a rut

Find a really hard song, something way above your level and break it down into bits and practice the hell out of it. When I was first starting I spent a long long time learning tough songs, they really helped me build strength and technique. The problem is you also have to learn simpler songs during this so you can stay grounded and not become a wanker.

1st thing to do, get a good teacher.

I bet that you're better than you were 1 year ago. It might not seem like it from your vantage point. If you recorded yourself when you first started, I'm sure you'd notice some improvement. ;)

Keep on pushing forward.

Joe

PS. Whenever I see the phrase; "Stuck in a rut", it reminds me of the phrase "Caught in a mosh". Can anyone site that reference? :ninja:

you can't know it all, by now. surely you know this, so I suggest trying all the stuff you haven't mastered yet. try slapping, or work on your modi in different tunings, approach chords by not just playing 1 3 5 7, but go beyond that: there's a whole new worl once you reach 9,10,11...
or try to strum, or pick chords...

lots ans lots and losts of stuff to find out. I've been taken lessons for about 4 years now, and I still got the feeling I haven't scratched the surface.
