Studio Projects C1

Hi guys,

Just wondering what peoples opinions on this mic are?

Looking for a general purpose LD condensor, for vocals, acoustic guitar, maybe micing bass and guitar cabs at a bit of a distance.

The SP's mics are decent, but I'd say if you're looking for a real all purpose contender without breaking the bank, save up another $180 and get and an Audio Technica AT4050. Solid mic that's great on a lot of stuff... bought mine new off of ebay for $400 shipped... very versatile with multiple pickup patterns. Of course, no mic is great all purpose... the best you can do is find one that accels in as much as possible and passes at the rest.

The price difference is alot over here im afraid.

I can get the C1 for about £100, and the AT4050 seems to be about £430ish over here, i cant justify that on a mic at this time , but as better as it may be, im assuming it wont be 4x better? Tho i daresay, i could always get one shipped from the US for less!

Ah, didn't look at your locale... sorry about that.

Yeah, not sure if it would be 4 x's better... maybe just 2 or 3 That's a pretty big price difference tho. The 4050 is a very well respected mic at that price point (or any really... seem to be nearly a studio standard)... the 4047 is also pretty widely praised. A slightly different thing, and maybe not quite as flexible, but still good.

I've heard nothing but good things about the studio projects mikes from my sound engineering buddies... Great multi purpose condensor that keeps up with a lot of its far more exspensive brothers!!

Hey mo, I've got a S/P C1 and their B3 model. While the C1 can be nice for some voices and some other sources, I think their (multi pattern) B3 is a much more versatile model and I believe its also less expensive.

I actually chose the c1 over the Audio Techinca. The c1's are great for the money. They have decent high end, held up to the key jangle test decently. Works well for a few different applications (vox, horns, drum overheads, etc.). Still, if I was flush with cash, I'd probably go with something else.

+1 for the C1 here too.

Best mic for that price range . Even better than twice as much mics.

I prefer a C1 on Male vocals over a TLM103 ( 2-3 times the price )
