Subby octave - meatbox or?

I have a meatbox and used it in my old loud punk band and never blew a speaker. Be sensible with the setting and you are fine. As it's has been pointed out other pedals with 2 octaves down would also be a risk. The Meatbox isn't really an octave pedal, like an OC-2. Go try what you can. The Subnup is good has 2 down and lots of options. I'm looking at a cog T47 or the 3leaf next.

For me the easiest get would be either the meatbox or the t16, would love the meatbox for its power, just wonder if it would be wasted on my rig or whether it would make my rig run really inefficiently due to the power needed to push it forward

For me the meatbox sounds great into an 810, however i think it would blow or be at risk due to the lows the meatbox can put out, ive had a pitchfork and two octave down isnt the same feeling that you get due to the fatness of the box! only thing ive had to come close is the mantic density hulk and that alot cleaner still wouldnt 100% trust that not to cause damage!

i run mine into the pa using a di that way i get the benefits but with out the risk, however cabs that can take the subs or you know can then it does sound great.

Yeah just don't wanna run the risk and don't know if my rig would make full use of it, Id like to get one to run to PA but we don't always have a proper PA and space on my board is limited for extra DI's and splitting etc.

Leanings towards t16, mainly just comparing it with the meatbox and seeing which would work best for my rig.

Cog T-16 or mxr sub machine, the cog can get more synth/square wave. Mxr has a fat fuzz, but the octave is super fat and round and tracks great.

I've never heard the Meat Box but I know it uses the same sub-harmonic chip as the Ashdow amps.

Edit: You could also look for a used Ashdow Sub-Octave pedal.

Subnup is probably most versatile and will get better as they release more TonePrints. My rig is tc b250 head and matching 2x10 cab. I liked the tone I got from the Meatbox. It's a tough choice but there are plenty of good octave pedals now.

i stick a radial stage bug under the meatbox and a simple insert cable job done, this also means that my fuzz and other pedals are put thru the meat box, and i can also go silly and put my cog t70 on aswell as having the meatbox in the pa.

as ive said before an octave down just isnt the same, its close but not quite, on gigs without pa i just dnt use it and turn up the octave down on my T70.

however my meatbox setting arent subtle.....i have everything at max and then the output set to have a good input into the board.

It is an analog pedal, so there will be some glitch to it, which is part of its charm. However, you kind of have to learn the pedal as if it's another instrument. It is DEEPLY sensitive to your attack, bass set-up, dynamics, where you pluck/pick, etc., so you CAN get smooth tracking once you learn how your bass responds to it. I love my OC-2!

I run into a Mantic Density Hulk and then into a Boss OC2
I can shake buildings lol
Most of the time I run the Hulk flat out into the PA, if I run it through my cabs though I'll ease up on the settings
The Hulk has an expression pedal input too for mad sub drops, awesome stuff

Yeah I've thought about doing the same but the cost and the fact it isn't an all in one solution puts me off, if I go that way I'll probably get the meatbox and the t16, just gota work out room on my board.

Those are pretty rare chips. I finally tracked some down and the seller wasn't interested in a small time DIYer, probably waiting for Digitech or Ashdown to call.

I own the ashdown sub octave and its tracking isn't good and it isn't very subby, the built in one on the amp has a bit more sub but doesn't track great

The Aguilar can get completely out of control with the lows if you roll the volume of the octave up and the tone down, it can probably push as much low air as the meat box, I've owned both but I never tried the meat box thru a big PA and that's where I've heard it shines.

If you push the front of the OC-2 with a compressor it'll improve the tracking and it can sound huge and subby, even more so if you play waaay up the neck and dial in some of the 2nd octave.

Even if all three can push really low lows, there's still a difference in the quality of the sound. To me, the Aguilar sounds sharp and aggressive at all settings, the oc-2 sounds very close to a pure sine wave, and the meatbox had this splatty, blown out sort of sound that reminds me of Run DMC.

Also, all the pogs are digital no question about it. AFAIK, the meatbox actually is an analog octave down, it just also has resonant filters at 30 and 60 hz.
