That would likely be what swayed my decision as well. The frequency control is a fantastic option (and the best part of the original Quasar IMO) and having 6 and 8 stages available is a huge bonus to me.

I have always found 2 stage phasers too subtle on bass.

That said, the Quasar has LFO noise. Not huge levels, but it's definitely there. While I haven't tried the Empress, my guess (based on owning all their other products) is that it would be whisper quiet.

BTW - anyone used an expression pedal with their DLX yet?
What pedals will work with them?

Hmm, well I guess I need to decide between this and the empress, argh! It look like the frequency knob and 4/6/8 stages are what set the quasar dlx apart form the empress phaser, it just seems jam packed with features.

I'm on the fence on the Quasar DLX. I received it several days ago and have been giving it a run through. Kinda hoping the next day will be brighter with it. To me it sure seems to cut alot of the mids and adds alot of sub bass. It doesn't get aggressive. I really like the selection of available waveforms and for me currently I prefer to use it as modulation efx rather than a customary phaser. I have several phasers with which to compare it, Toadworks Phantasm, Akai Intelliphase, Roland Jet Phaser, EHX polyphase, I just can't seem to get a nice straight up phaser tone out of it. Mids are cut and sub bass blooms. I haven't decided it's fate yet. Going to try it again tomorrow, see if it grows on me...... Lapicide

For more "straight up" phaser sounds try dialing the depth way back. I'm used to cranking phaser depth on bass to make it pronounced enough to be heard in a mix but with the Quasar you really have to turn it down to get to the area that most phasers live in. Past noon and it just gets really crazy and possibly overwhelming.
