Subdecay Quasar vs. Moog Phaser

I was wondering who out there has had the chance to a/b these. I have the moog and love it. But i was wondering if it can do everything the quasar can and vice versa. I would think that the quasar can't do some self oscillating things the moog can do but its just a guess

IMO, the Quasar would be a better buy. I mean i had the Moog, it was way too big, phaser wasn't THAT great (on bass that is).

The Moog has a lot of features like expression pedal inputs and stuff. But the Quasar has a better tone imo.

with the expression pedal you can use the moog like a wah pedal with some attitude. I don't know if you can do that with the other pedal.

I agree with you on the size but not the sound on bass, I think it sounds better then a lot of phases on bass. You just have to really put in some time with it, same as with most effects that have a lot of control over what it does.

Yeah i put a lot of time in it. Not sure why i couldn't get the sound i liked. I'm gonna get a Quasar soon so hopefully my phaser quest will end there.

I think that is why there is so many options out there, we all sound, play different, use different strings, basses, amps ect.

True that. I guess the Moog just a little subtle in the slower settings. I like the slow echo of a phaser and the Moog seemed to not do well with bass in that factor. Worked fantastic on guitard though.

Hmm.... I didn't have a problem with this, basically you have to tune the sweep and resonance controls [sweep set low and the resonance set high, I think.

I find with the Moog Phaser that it's too subtle with just my bass run straight into it (I am strung with flats, and only my neck pickup works currently so I don't have a very bright tone) but the more complex signal I send to it the better it sounds. My favorite use of my phaser is to have the sweep controlled by the envelope out on the FreqBox.

I don't recommend Moog unless you plan on using multiple Foogers. Otherwise all the awesome CV features go unused.

You know, there are a lot of expensive Phasers out there, but damn my new cheapo Phases90 sounds absolutely brilliant on bass. its chewy, cuts through, has absolutely no volume or low end loss and is instantly recognizable. The best part is, no tweaking!

My favorite phase is a 70's Phase 45, but I use flats so it is almost in audible without a dirt or filter pedal first. I have never really liked 90s, I even modded the one I have and it still just isn't me.

+1 The Quasar is the best phaser I have ever used. It can produce a huge range of tone without adding noise or distortion. It has a lot of headroom and a TON of versatility. You can even get envelope filter style effects with it. The Moog has a bad bypass on it, is large and if I remember correctly, required 12V AC power where the quasar is small, true bypass and can run on 9 V DC power.

I love my Moog keyboard, but the Moogefooger pedals are just too big. I only ever had the bass MuRF, and couldn't get into it. But, as phasers go, Pigtronix EP-1 is pretty sweet, and has switchable LFO/EF modes, as well as trigger and exp pedal inputs. Not to mention an awesome and very wide sweep, lottsa tweakability. Just throwing it out there.
