Well, I couldn't talk my way out of it. And it's too late at this point anyway.
*sigh*
I HATE being cold. The only thing I hate worse than being cold is being WET and cold. I would rather it be 120 degrees outside with a heat index of Hell. Humidity and mosquitoes? Bring it on!!! I grew up here. They don't get to me.
I hate driving in snow. I hate driving with IDIOTS in the snow. I'm fine with snow coming briefly about once every 5 years here in the flatlands of Eastern NC. I'm FINE with bread and milk flying off the shelves and the very MENTION of a POSSIBLE flurry.... with no chance of accumulation.
BUT...…
*sigh again*
My wife grew up snow skiing.
The very thought of snow skiing is horrible to me. The thought of ice and snow getting in my boots just makes me want to throw up.
I did snow board a few times before it was cool.... back when I was 16.... in the 80s. I was kind of into skateboarding at the time so it seemed as though it would be fun. (It wasn't) That cured me of snow on mountains. (I love mountains and hiking.... when it's cool and dry.)
We're going next Saturday and coming back Wednesday. It's supposed to snow the whole time we're there. Neither of us is an experienced snow driver.
I am having to borrow a hurt-your-eyes red snow....."getup" of some sort from my neighbor. The last time he wore it was about 15 years ago. Oh, it's red. If there's such a thing as fluorescent red, this is it.
My wife is running around the house dancing and singing about going skiing.
My girls are split. The older one (9 years old) is all about it. The younger one (7 years old) would rather poke her eyes with an icepick (like me).
But I'm putting on a happy face. I'm acting as though I'm excited. My wife can tell I'm kind of faking it. But she appreciates my effort.
If the younger one and I hate the whole experience as much as I think we will, we'll let them go skiing next time while we find something else to do. I'm thinking we'll let them go next February and we'll go catch some Spring Training Red Sox games down in Florida.
Yeah, yeah..... "First world problems". I get it. (By the way, it's super annoying when someone says "First World Problems". I live in the first world. So they're MY PROBLEMS.)
Anyway.....
Just venting. Why someone would think that pushing a dang near 50 year old man down a mountain is a good idea I'll never know.
Oh, and the cabin (owned by her grandmother) is "rustic". There's no TV. There's no anything. There's a fridge, a stove, and some beds and chairs. If the young one and I get bored and cold, we'll have to find something to do away from the cabin.
If we get stranded in the snow up there, I'm renting a helicopter to get us down the mountain. Then I'm renting a car to get home. I'll leave my truck and go back for it in the Spring.
If one were to say to me "I'm about to beat you with a stick. The only way you can get out of the beating is to ski away from me down that mountain." I would have to see the stick before I decide. If the stick isn't huge, I'll just take the beating.
Short version. I don't want to go snow skiing...… EVER. But I'm going. Hell of a way to spend a "vacation".
......the things we do for love....
Here's hoping I'm pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. But I doubt it.
