Double Bass Suggestion for a double bass amp?

The other problem to getting a good sound with an upright bass is the sound source. .... the pickup.
What one are you using? Most lower priced pickups need a pre-amp between the bass and the amp. But not all. I use a Wilson for more volume and a David Gage for soft softer gigs. Both work great just different. ..... Keep trying it takes years to find the right one.

i'm also searching for a <$1k DB amp......-- i want my DB to sound just like my DB, only louder, ya know?

I've not found any combination of power and speakers or combo unit that does my bass only louder under $1K.

You might also consider the Henriksen Jazzamp. They make a 1x12 combo for $799 that could be just what you're looking for. Their website is jazzamp.com. They're fairly new to the market so not a lot of folks are using them yet, but I know there's at least one thread about them here on TB. They're located in Evergreen, Colorado, so you might be able to try one out in person. Hope this helps.

I've been using a JazzAmp for the past 3 months with a Revolution Solo II. Sounds natural and clean at low or high volume (sounds like my bass only louder).

It is cheap and lightweight, and I think I'm gonna buy one..

All Mark Bass stuff sounds really good in the store. On the gig is the real test. If you're playing out make sure you get the stores OK to change your mind. Most stores are cool and want to keep you coming back. I tried the Mark bass combo with a couple 5" or 8" speakers in it and I was blown away. The guy's in the store(Guitar Center) kept coming up to me expecting I was playing on the bigger Mark Bass rig there and were shocked what came out of that little thing. I think it sold for around 5/6-bills.

Upright pickups have come a long way of late 20-years ago. Back then there was Fishman and Underwood and magnetic models from Germany. And costs have come way down, cause of China, on everything.

I imagine China will call the rest of the world one day and say "Oh, I guy's. Remember all that stuff we sold you yesterday for one dollar. Well, it's now 20 dollars. ..... Have a nice day."

Fender Bassman 150. I know, you're thinking "Fender?!". It's really nice and warm, handles my EUB, electrics and weighs 39lbs(eminence neo 12"). Also tilts back. Oh yeah,it's cheap! I bought it as a backup and it gets used as my main amp most of the time.

I really love the Henriksen Jazz Amp. It seems to do all the things I want it to . It's warm, has lots of power and great EQ flexibility and it is easily transported. If you check the web you can find it at a fairly competitive price.

Hey another vote for the new Fender bassman combos. I bought the bassman 100 with the 1X10 speaker in the monitor-style rock back cab. It's not nearly in the same class as some of the other suggestions, but it is cheaper and sounds solid. I A/B'd it directly to the GK microbass thing and it killed it. Also in the larger combo territory is the Ampeg BA-115. It's a 15"speaker with a tweeter with a 100 watt amp. Used this on a lot of gigs. You do need a separate preamp to use for both of these amps to match the output of your pickup to the amps input. As always IMO,IME,YMMV, ETC.

Hey feedback can be tough to get rid of at volume. Seems like I've heard a lot about a notch filter on the AI amps. I usually (the obvious) try to avoid having the stage volume too loud. No amps Use your body between the amp and your bass. Try positioning yourself so the body of the bass is perpendicular to the amp. I mean so the bridge is at a right angle to the direction the speaker is pointed Now I've confused myself. Also putting your amp on a stand or on a chair to avoid the amp vibrating the stage.

It's tough to get a good tone on DB for under $1000.

A Bergantino EX112 and Markbass LMII would be right at $1k. May or may not be your cup o' tea, but it is certainly a pro rig. I use that combo and love it.

I think good tone can cetainly be had for that money. It can also be absent in rigs costing way more.

I've auditioned the Jazz Amp and PJB flightcase. Both are very good DB combos and fall in your price range. They have significant volume limitations though, which may not seem to be a concern.

I would stay clear of the SWR, Mark bass and GK stuff unless you are planning on running a preamp buffer in addition to the amp which will increase your costs and still not get as good of a sound as the JAzz amp or PJB.

Uncle Toad is right on if you look for seperate head, cabinet. You'd be hard pressed to get a decent set up in your price range.

Cant really say what is a good amp, I am still looking for it myself, but I can say that Ashdown Mag Mon 10 is not. I was actually allmost happy with my amp sound, untill I tried my friends EBS. Now that Ashdown sounds just cheap.
