suggestions for audio editing software

Hi

My old computer crashed a few weeks ago. At that time I was using AVS audio editor to edit and do minor tweaks on my recordings off of my Tascam DR-1. I had mixed feelings about the program. It was inexpensive and easy to use but I found that I didn't like the sound quality of a lot of its effects, like EQ. Any suggestions for a good inexpensive program that will let me cut out dead space ( a lot of recordings are at open jams) adjust volume and EQ and maybe add a little reverb etc.

Mac, Windows, or Linux?

How much are you prepared to spend?

If you're looking for Windows+cheap, a lot of people seem to like Reaper

I personally use [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], which is one of a family that goes from [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] to professional.

I work on a PC with windows. I tried Reaper and never got it to work for me. As I only want it to clean up and sectionalize recordings off a portable recorder I'd like to keep the cost under $100.

Audacity's well worth a try. If it's not enough, try the "home user" version of Sonar - "[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]", $35 or so and there's an upgrade path if you find yourself needing more in the future.
