Suggestions to get this started.

Okay. so my dad is currently doing charity work for a program in my area (metro vancouver) that takes prostitutes off the streets and educate them and give them a home etc. not gonna get into deltails about that. the thing is, i suggested to him putting on a charity concert with some local bands (im from the langley-surrey area). he simply shrugged the idea off (he's a conservative, he likes doing the old ways). so little to his knowing i'm planning to make this concert a realistic idea. i know a couple of bands that i work with, and i have friends who can get their bands/their friends bands to join in. any ideas of how i can get acess to a place to gig? and if your in my area and can help out/give out advice to get things going that'd be great. basically i'm asking for advice to get things going, and any things to keep on the lookout for yeah. thats about it. thx guys.

You need to present your idea to the charity's board of directors and find out if they will approve it. There is a lot of legal liability involved and since you're probably under 18, you can't sign contracts anyways.

It takes money to do it right. They've probably put on fund raisers before and know how to do it. Just because you can put a couple of bands together doesn't mean you can make money on the deal. IME, fund raisers charge $100/ticket and up each. People with money go to these things. Not kids paying $5 a head. The goal usually is to raise thousands or tens of thousands.

I suggest you ask your dad if you can volunteer you time for the charity doing something they need done rather than a one off deal that probably will lose money.

If it's something you're really interested in, look around and find some charities/non-profits that put on shows/concerts/etc. Volunteer for them and learn how it's done right. When you're older, you'll have experience and already know the ins/outs of the deal and can put on shows for various non-profits and raise lots of money for their good causes.

Really appreciate the advice but I was hoping I could maybe put another. 2 cents in. You said alot of fundraisers charge 100+, and wouldn't tolerate the idea of 5 bucks a head, I say why not? Recently another local concert went down they managed to raise 1500 for charity, I say that's better than. Not doing It and raising 0. And that concert was 10 bucks a pop. Some people associated with my school did a benefit show seliing t shirts and tickets raised 8 grand. Now don't get me wrong I do understand that these ppl probs have experience and I'm probably going to rely on others, alot of commitment and effort and experience must must be put into this, but I just didn't agree with the point of basically as I took it, that kids paying five or ten dollars each can't help.

MAYBE getting a smaller, cleaner bar to donate time during the evening. In Port Moody there was one @ The Golden Spike. If they're/you're nice people, 4 to 9 isn't much to ask. Besides, they're getting publicity and you're drawing a crowd.

That, or there's places like The Red Room from d/t that cost X amount to rent out. They may give you a sponsorship price slash because of the cause.

Are you running the WHOLE event? or just the music/venue end?

You're right though. Getting the $100/tix crowd in is the way to go. Just need a lot more planning and a seriously classy joint

You're exactly right. Ignore my "old man" advice. I suggest you get your idea written up, get some volunteers, bands, venue, etc. and present it to the board of directors so they can get behind you.

The world needs more people like you who are willing to give their time and creativity to help others.

There are lots of ways to go about this as well. It doesn't have to be just money. Used clothing (in good condition), or food for the food bank. Anything helps.

Many local places will do it for free, seeing as how it's free publicity for them. Even if they make zero money from the tickets, the bar should still do just fine
