Suggestions

Need some suggestions on how I can play my bass while listening
to music or checking out youtube or, while I'm on the computer. I just want to monitor my bass playing using my computer soundcard and speakers.I purchase the lightsnake 1/4 instrument to usb cable devise,
but its for recording and not monitoring my playing. It was suggested
to me to purchase a small mixer of some type??? All I want to do is
plug something into my computer, play my bass, and monitor my bass
playing through my pc speakers. Any suggestions on how I can achieve
this for a reasonable cost?

What kind of computer do you have? I use GarageBand on my Mac. I plug my bass into the microphone in 1/8" plug with an adapter. If you have a desktop with a sound card, you could plug directly into that also. Be careful of volume though, if you hit too hard the little pc speakers may not be able to take the spike.

Probably not really much help to you - but the way I do this is to make sure the room is otherwise quiet, and then set my PC speakers to the volume level of my un-plugged bass.

Great for middle of the night Youtube play alongs without waking anybody up.
