SUNN 215BH

Hey all - what do we think of the drivers in this Sunn 215BH? Someone is selling it for $200. They say they don't know what drivers are in it and have reported "whatever it came with". Just wondering... could they be JBL D140 or K140s? Apparently it's a 1994 cab, which makes me think it wouldn't have been shipped with either. Any thoughts/insights?

The giant Sunn 215BH cab that I owned had Sunn labeled square magnet drivers.
Like this....

I ran one of those cabs in the mid-1970s. Bought new. That thing weighed a ton. We used to use it as a "super dolly" to roll heavy stuff in & out of clubs. The sound was dry and boring, with almost no bottom end, but I don't know if that was due to the drivers, the cab design itself, the Concert Bass head I was using it with, or a combination of all three. I would hate to have to model that cab to find a suitable pair of modern drivers for it. I wouldn't know where to begin.

Those cabs were from the mid-70’s, long after founder Conrad Sundholm had sold the company to a conglomerate, and long after they stopped using JBL products. If the drivers in the cab are still original, they may be the proprietary ‘Sunn Transducers’, or Eminence OEM’s; they’ll work if you don’t push them, but they’re not exceptional.

Great cabs. I ran a 215B for many years with the 100 watt square backs that had the 2” voice coils.

My friend ran a 215BH with non JBL 15s that did have aluminum dust caps. It was also nice.

Give us a link or pictures?

I have a pair of Sunn clone 115 cabs now with have the same design as half of the center slot “fake horn” version of the Sunn 200s. With is a lot like the 215BH. One has a D140 and the other an eminence legend. Both sound quite good.

so I’d begin with a legend.
