Sunn Concert bass... Crap?

I've had two. They are loud and can't be killed. The tone is not something I could use these days, it's pretty aggressive. Good amps.

I had a 2nd generation Concert Bass amp that I used with a '60s Traynor YT-15 with EVM15L drivers. Sounded great with my first 4001 for the Top 40/Disco bands I was in during the mid/late '70s.

I once had a Concert Bass Head. It was my first non-combo amp. Mine was I think early 1970s. I got it from a pawn shop in maybe 1983 or so. Played it into a pair of 15s. Reasonably Loud and very zingy. After a couple of years, I replaced it with a V4-B.

They are still fairly popular around here, likely because they were made in Oregon. Last time I saw the band Red Fang both guitarists and the bassist were using Sunn amps.

Yeah, Dixie Dave from Weedeater uses a Concert Bass along with a Concert Slave for his rig too. IIRC, he uses a pair of each into some 2x15s, but it's been a while since I've seen them. Sounds pretty darn good in that application too.

I used a Sunn Concert bass head of that era for years with no problems at all; threw that thing in the back of trucks, etc etc not even a hicup out of that thing; great amps. I still own one to this day, and played my last gig with it and an old Marshall 1x15 cab from the 80's..... : )

Hey! I´m new here in the forums! Its great to start this thing off with this kind of question (seeing that nobody has asked this in a long time).
I just bought an 200W Sunn Concert Bass Amp, the one that has the black logo and a large silver stripe on the front, and an 8 ohm acoustic cab, for 128 dollars (yeah, a strange number, due to the currency that my country uses).
Listening to it its better than I expected, but I don´t know, I wanted to read your opinions on the sunn amps and the cabinet, Was it worth the money?

Played Sunn Concert Bass with 2/15 with a Ric 4001 the brightness and punch were a great Prog sound. If a Yes tribute band comes around I'll pull it out of the mothballs.

Why, thank you! I was a CS devotee in the mid-70s. I pored over the early Yes albums-- played them over and over in order to learn those fantastic lines. It taught me a lot and advanced my playing enormously. I count him as one of my teachers. Anyway, I still play this rig out. It has balls for sure. I bought that bass in the summer of 1973 under the spell of Macca and Chris.
