Well, the point he makes in the first section is that low frequencies have trouble in small spaces because of the large wavelengths involved. That is only true if you assume the waves are transverse.
I think the point he makes is that with wavelength close to room size you get the wave cancelling / reinforcing itself at certain frequencies. And that's independent of how you draw them.

I wish he'd explained briefly why low frequenceies are not directional. I remember learning that in undergrad physics but that's ages back.
