Super Jazz Bass

What are some ways to modify a jazz bass to a super jazz bass, such as Sodowskys etc.. is it actually the pickups or maybe a preamp is needed.

It really depends on what someone's (or your) definition of what a "super jazz" is...

Some consider a pre-CBS (bone stock) Fender to be one, while some think of it as the modern day, tricked out models (Sadowsky, Celinder, etc).

If you're thinking of the latter, than yes, the pickup/preamp mod is right up there. Upgrading the hardware (Hipshot, etc.) is a good start, too.

Yeah, it really depends on what kind of "super jazz" you mean. For me its a Celinder or Sadowsky, but some people like the smooth soind of a 65 or 66 jazz fully stock.

I'm thinking more of the sadowsky, I love the punch and growl that it gives. One thing i'm considering is the big singles, but i have no idea how they sound, just read reviews

On Sadowsky basses, besides the preamp and pickups their body are a bit thin compared to the stock Fender. This improves the overall balance and the bass gets very comfortable to play.
