Supernova Bass project : Ovular content

It's looking good. Great job and great pics. I know purple is a helluva challenge to photograph.
It is, but I'm sorta' used to that with most of my finishes - they all look better in person.

I took the Supernova to our Bond Girl rehearsal tonight. All my custom basses are "one-offs" so before I sell it I want to play it in a band-setting. At home at a respectable volume it sounds great, but how does it sound "in a live mix". I want to know this before I sell it so anything I say about it is true from a players perspective. Leo wasn't a musician but his mass-produced guitars/basses were initially R&D'd by local musicians. So pretty different - once tested/finalized, it was production time.

Anyway.., we have a new drummer (Scott) and he's working out great! He's a good drummer w/a good ear, but most importantly he doesn't play too loud. All drummers want play loud - but a good drummer knows how to play with nuance, dynamics & expression w/o playing LOUD. Since he's joined our band, our rehearsals (volume) levels have been so ideal. We're a quartette with a lead singer & backup vocals and to hear all of that clearly while rockin' or groovin', jazzy or soulful... I play better at that volume and so does everyone else. And most importantly - an audience loves that, at least that's how I feel attending a show where I can hear the talent - not just volume. The bass fit right in and it felt very expressive. This is a bass with multiple voices depending on how it's dialed thanks to the Audere 9v pre. Even with all those options, I was able to find a good setting pretty quickly and barely touched it the whole rehearsal. This active bass is very effect friendly, with an ability to be expressive and still be articulate and bass-y. (as much as you'd ever want/need) I use a number of effect pedals including chorus, tremolo, P.O.G., fuzz & Electro Harmonics B9, and the bass tone/footprint through the effect stays clean & focused. It was really fun to put it through its paces.
