Surprised by the EB-0

Having left my cheap-a** gear in Ecuador, as not being worth bringing it back with me to the US, I'm shopping around for a new -- or at least new to me -- bass. Two things I've discovered already:

1) The Guitar Center stores in New Jersey were a lot nicer than the ones here in Oregon; the staff were pretty helpful and a lot of the basses were actually set up decently enough for comparison purposes; and

2) The Epiphone EB-0 felt really solid and sounded nice; I had been thinking I wanted to move up to a regular 34" scale, but the EB-0 had me rethinking that. And it's so frinkin' inexpensive!

The eb-0 is a solid little bass. Some call it a beginner's bass but it really isn't. It's a solid bass for a player at any level and its cheap. They surprised me once too but now I'm just surprised if one DOESN'T play nice and sound good.

I love my EBO. Modded with a Dimarzio Model One, Hipshot bridge and strung with flats, it's a well built thump machine.

I had a really nice specimen and let it go for almost nothing when in a bass buying frenzy a couple years ago.

I should have kept it. It did have bad neck dive, and I wasn't too keen on the bridge.
But the neck felt right, it played good, and didn't sound as muddy as I was expecting.
I'd like to get another one and put a second pickup in it closer to the bridge.

I always loved the SG body shape, but couldn't tolerate the neck dive on the few I've played. Would ultra lite tuners balance this out?

D'addario Chromes. This set has been on it for about 5 years. They sound and feel great.
