Yeah, planning on buying a replacement board and repairing/modifying this one as a backup.

Snip the legs on the old chip, unsolder each one, use a solder sucker and solder wick to clean it up. You mentioned the a socket not being able to withstand the current. A good machined four fingered DIP such as this one is rated for 3A per pin (http://www.te.com/commerce/Document...773906-9_DIP_Socket_QRG&DocType=DS&DocLang=EN). Open frame can help with air circulation.

Successfully soldering the device onto the board will depend on your skills. The socket helps get around issues related to applying too much heat while soldering.

Ah, nice, the highest-rated ones I had found so far were only 2A.

I'm aware of the heat issues avoided by using a socket...and yes, I can solder sufficiently well to do that and have a temperature-controlled station to make it a little easier. Circuit design I don't do, but assembly? Hell yes, I can.

I already have Mesa x 2, Aguilar, Eden, Fender, Markbass x 2, Hartke in addition to the dead SVT...more amps and cabinets than I really need in ANY sense of the term, even when leaving practice rigs at every band location that I practice with remotely often. Not going to buy more at the moment, I just want the ones I have to be functional.

Heard good things about Trickfish, though.

IDK man, there is a significant difference between the 7pro and 6pro (I have a 6Pro) .. weight/size.
Don't get me wrong, I like the SVT 6Pro fine and it does deliver 1100w of Ampeg goodness, but if the OP is used to the small form factor 15lb 7Pro, he may flinch at the much larger (it's a particularly deep amp physically) 45lb 6pro.

You are 100% right. It is one heavy bastard to lug around, but it does deliver a lot of goodness. I love mine!

Easier? Probably. Cheaper? Probably not. It's not under warranty at all.

How did the replacement work out for you? I just did a p m replacement on 00C and its cutting out less than 30 min into a set.

Ouch. Truthfully I haven't gotten around to it yet. D-800+ is just ticking all the boxes for what I need right now and haven't been sufficiently motivated to fix the Ampeg. Sorry.
