Hello Talkbass. I am having some issues with a SVT 7 Pro amp and a SVT 410HLF cab I bought second hand recently. The sound stops completely when the string hits the pickup on the bass, the sound turns of for a couple of seconds. The clipping and (if the compression is on) tresh lights are both responding to when I play on the bass but the sound is "off". I've tried multiple basses, changed the speaker/speakon cable (tried with both), used the -15 dB padding and lowered the gain (then raising the Master but the volume of the actual sound is really low, when it reaches a usable level the sound turns of) but the issue seems to persist. I would hope someone with more experience in the field could help me. I could get a video up if necessary.
You do know that strings hitting the pickups is a bad thing right? Best way to blow your speakers by far. That said, High power demand shutdowns is a recurrent fault complaint with the 7-Pro and usually leads to a main board replacement. Not cheap out of warranty.
That click when the string hits the pickup magnet is sending an impulse into the amp. It is overwhelming the input, even with the -15 dB pad engaged. The amp is protecting itself. There are a few things to try. It is possible that your bass needs a setup, neck adjustments, string height, and pickup height. A different type of strings with a different tension might also help.
