Buying a bass head over the weekend and deciding between Ampeg Svt 7 pro or Ampeg Portaflex PF 800. Anyone have any stories good or bad with these amps? Also the head I get will be paired with a Ampeg 410Hlf. Need help deciding it's been a few years since I've gigged on bass.

I currently gig the 7 Pro and have a PF500, which from all accounts sounds identical to the PF800. Both sound really close, but the 7 Pro has a little something extra going on to me - a bit more weight, heft, thickness to the sound.
The 7 Pro went through a rocky period with reliability issues when initially released, but it appears those issues are long since resolved. Mine has been flawless thus far and it sees a good bit of road time. With that, I’ve only had it for just over a year (bought new). The PF500 I have and used sparingly (bought used here on TB to be mainly used as a backup) is having issues cutting in and out that they were known to suffer from. Luckily, the PF800 seemed to be immune from the same issues.
For me, the 7 Pro is the better sounding amp, but not by much.

I'm using an SVT 7Pro with a 410hlf and a 610hlf. I'm generally happy with the tone.
The tone is actually a little dark for my tastes, but it's not because of the amp. The SVT 7Pro sounds great with the Amp 810 cabinet and through an EBS 410 cab, too. And for over a year, the amp has been rock-solid.
I'm about to experiment some with the cabs, but only up to a point. I may have to look at different cabs. And I have to weigh how much I actually use an amp because of me using IEMs more and more.

No experience with the 7Pro. The past 2 years I've loved the tone and portability of the pf800. Add a Scrambler pedal and you have all the clean and overdriven tones you could want.
