I did a search, but it couldn't answer my question, so here it goes...I just was at my local music store and noticed that they had a SVT-CL head (USA made) tagged at $999. This head is technically new (never bought), but has been sitting around in the closet and sales floor for a year or two. They told me they'd give me a good deal on it, so I took it home for the weekend to try with my SVT410HLF cab. That was the good part...

...when I got home and set up the rig, I plugged in my Yamaha BB415. As the voulme went up I heard farting coming from the cab (and me ;)). The EQ was set flat, hi/lo buttons out, and gain at 10-11:00. I seemed to notice farting even with the tweeter off, but it was at its worst with the tweeter on. It got worse the more I dug in with a pick on my B string. Any advice or thoughts on what I'm doing wrong and how to fix this? Is this a tube amp thing? I never had this problem with my LMII. Thanks.

my 410hlf never liked tube heads. to be honest with you ive never had luck with tube heads on anything but sealed cabs.

Yeah, I'm not in love with the 410HLF. I can't seem to get the sound I want with the thing (using different heads). I bought it used for a steal when I needed a cab. For now I'm stuck with it until I get some cash.

I turned down the lows on the SVT to around 10-11:00 and that seemed to help with the farting/distorting speakers. The EQ on this amp definetely acts different than on my SS heads. However, with the SVT, turning off the tweeter on this cab sounds best to my ears. Again this is the opposite of what I found with my SS heads. I guess I need to fiddle with it more.

Strange, definitely try another cab if you can.

  6. Hmmm...I run one with an Avatar B410 and an Avatar B210 no problem...but I don't play a 5 string either. Think it's the low B?

The distortion was more evident with the low B string being played. To tell you the truth I'm not sure I noticed it while playing on the E string. Turning down the lows helped a lot.

cloudermilk, where do you have your lows set on the head and how do you like you Avatar 410 with the SVT?

  8. With the SVT CL I found that the lows don't need to set at more than 4...The Avatar cabs were the best investment I made...

That's where I found I like to set my lows also. Hmmm, me thinks I need to check into Avatar.

avatars are amazing cabs. i ran into a guy not to long ago who had the 610hlf and he made something to close the ports in the bottom of the cab. It seemed to work for him
