svt distorting too much ?

Need some advice.

Have an svt (76 or 77 ). Had it for a few years. Don't gig it much currently, but i may need to have it checked out.

This head seems to be distorting a bit, particularly on a higher slap note(s)...not the svt's strong point maybe. But even through other cabs, the higher notes break up a bit. Settings are volume about 10 o'clock, eq pretty flat, using passive fender(s). It's perhaps just normal overdrive , but it sounds so good over the rest of the tonal range, I'd love to use it for an occasional outdoor gig.

Is there anything I should consider looking at myself ?
Or should I have someone check it out ?

I don't want to ship it anywhere...I'm located in MA

This thing sucks so I'll come pick it up from you. You'll never get it right and it's old anyway and as a favor to you I'll take it off your hands/back. It's too big, sounds old, is old, and no one likes them anymore so I am doing you a favor. It's better that it sucks at my house than at yours.
