Does anyone else have a bunch of auditions coming up with a lot of music to learn???

I just figured that I have about one month to learn and audition on about 22 pieces. The list is as follows...

Debussy - Danses
John Adams - Short Ride in a Fast Machine
Bounty Hunter Theme
Halo Theme
Kabalevski - Kabalevski Violin Concerto
Hummel - Hummel Trumpet Concerto

Barber - Second Essay
Strauss - Death & Transfiguration
Hindemith - Symphonic Metamorphosis
Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries
Debussy - Clare de Lune
Strauss - Also Sprach Zarathrustra
Alford - Colonel Bogey March
Williams - Superman Theme
Tyzik - Best of Bond

Brahms - Academic Festival Overture
Elgar - Nimrod
Mahler - Finale from Symphony no. 1
Barber - Medea's Dance of Vengeance
Strauss - Don Juan

Dragonetti Concerto - 1st Movement
Eccles Sonata - 1st Movement



So all of that on top of finals (high school). Is anyone else experiencing this?

What are all these auditions for man?

The first group is for my Elgin Youth Symphony Seating Auditions.

The second group is for the Chicago Youth Symphony seating auditions as well as the Gala Concert music.

The Third group is for the Illinois All-State Orchestra.

And the last two solo things are for a Fischoff Bass Quartet audition and for my Walnut Hill application.

Lots of music.............

I find that list to be unusually daunting for a High Schooler-I recall the days of Beethoven 5, Mozart 40 and a Bach Bouree and that was that.
What's interesting is that we have more talented young bassists than ever before while the Orchestra business is in more trouble than ever before.
Do the best you can, set aside an hour every day and work hard on your music but it is vital that you do well in your academic subjects.

Agreed. Do not neglect your academic subjects. They are important. Practice hard but remember to study hard. You will thank yourself later.
