Sweating while you sleep (cure)

I sweat a lot when I sleep. I also have horrible nightmares every night. Fairly used to it by now. My wife turns on the ceiling fan and pulls the cover off me after I am asleep, otherwise she wakes up soaked ( by me). I wake up freezing to death every morning.

Short siderail: You can train yourself to remember ALL of your dreams. It's actually a pretty simple and effective method to do it. I VERY, VERY highly recommend NOT doing this. Once it is done, it cannot be undone. And that is no BS.

I'd be interested to know what this method is.

Since you have to use pillows, I suggest looking into and testing out an adjustable bed frame and mattress. Maybe then you can do w/o the pillows (at least for your legs) and get a mattress that stays cool. If you do buy an adjustable frame, you might consider what I did for my wife and I: get two extra-long twin beds/frames (CA king size total) and put them next to each other. That way, each person can adjust their own bed.

There are also other neck and leg supports available that are made of different materials that will keep you cooler than regular pillows. Link Removed

Have you checked with your Doc on this issue? Is it a reaction to some medication?

Maybe he can prescribe some new pillows and your insurance will pay for it or at least you can write it off. There's also a bed cooling system available: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Hope you feel better.

OK... I hate to drag this corpse up and zombie thread it, but here's an update:

I have tried all methods of dress before bed. The best is backpacking style underwear and a quick-dry shirt (it's better to absorb sweat than going shirtless).

I keep seeing commercials for these beds with cooling foam, or springs that move air. Has anyone tried these? It's just that they will cost me a grand or more. And I WILL get one if it'll help me long-term. I just can't tell from a commercial if it'll solve my problems.

As far as dreams go, I remember them all. I am bipolar and I take Seroquel, and it causes you to remember long, vivid dreams, and lots of sleep paralysis (if you haven't experienced it, imagine waking up mid-dream, with only your eye lids being able to move... for HOURS).

My doctors have said there isn't anything that I can do medically that will not cause me to go off the deep end. And I don't have A/C. I live in a rather cold area, year 'round. It just seems random.

Anyone here bipolar with sleep sweating? I can tell you what I take, but I've also had a pair of back surgeries, so my meds are a very fine balance. Sucks. That's life. I just bring this up again, because I'm seriously contemplating buying a second bed to move to after I sweat out my primary bed. It sounds insane, but after what I've gone through for YEARS, I am at the end of my rope here.

I am hoping someone here has some magic cure. I know that's stupid. Waaaaay stupid. But that's hope, isn't it? Sorry for the zombie action, but I just went 5 days without sleeping and this morning I woke up in a friggin' pool of gross.

I'm working my way back into the dating and relationship area, and I'm very afraid that no one will want me if they wake up next to some sweaty guy. It is causing a ton of stress, because there is someone I'm very interested in, and I think the feeling is mutual. I just can't pull the trigger until I feel okay with myself.

Okay... enough complaining... anyone with a new-fangled, fancy cooling mattress?

I feel for you, bro. I would think that something with real, active cooling, such as the ChiliPad, would do it. Can't see how it wouldn't. The high-tech cooling fabrics are interesting as well, but if you really want serious cooling, active is the way to go.

Once in a while I get night sweats. I have somehow trained myself to wake up as soon as it starts - and it starts in the dream / nightmare cycle.

For anyone that has never experienced the dream / profuse sweating phenomenon, You would simply be stunned at how quickly you can become soaking wet.

If I get hit - I get up, strip down and dry off with a clean, dry towel - put on a new tee and boxers - put another clean fresh towel in the bed and go back to sleep.

And pray.

(In the movie Scarface, the scene in the beginning where the guy is handcuffed in the shower and about to be murdered - the amount of sweat pouring out of him is pretty much right on the money.)

There are actually two different conversations occurring in this thread.

Those sweating because it is hot.

And those sweating from every pore so profusely during dreams that it is astonishing. Hair, chest, face, arms, legs, feet, toes, hands - going frame bone dry to soaking wet in under a minute.

I sleep at the same temp all year long. 66 degrees.
