Sweetwater reports major theft

You do have a point. But a truck stop should have cameras. And you certainly don't unload a truck at a truck stop, you will attract the attention of other truckers who might be in the vicinity. Not to mention getting the pallet out of the trailer would be difficult if it was deep inside. Or even just trying to break in the trailer.
I don't want to wear my tinfoil hat any longer, but either the thieves had insane luck, or they had insane intel.
Still have to figure out which truck has that pallet and when it ships.
Thieves, you can hate them or you can ignore them, but you can't love them.
I worked in law enforcement a long time ago, and I don't know how many times I'd say to some cheap punk "Look, if you put this much time and effort into a regular job, instead of stealing, you'd be way better off. Why do you guys have to do everything the hard way?" Not once did any of them seem to understand the logic of what I was saying.
So that's it then; criminals are really stupid.
Also, I like Les Pauls (I'm building one at the moment), but at prices like that I'd never buy one. It would only encourage that sort of foolish behavior.

Not to mention, theft makes prices go up, so who loses in the end?These are limited edition guitars that were pre ordered and paid for. So they were stolen from all of the INDIVIDUALS who ordered them and waited a long time for them to be delivered..... even though they had not taken possession of them yet.
And, while we're at it, I have grown incredibly weary of this anti corporation sentiment that makes it "OK" if a large company falls victim to a crime.... because they're big enough to absorb it, or somehow deserve it. Every single company you deal with is made up of humans. Those humans have to deal with crap every day just like you do. And the PEOPLE at Sweetwater.... the "little guy" employees who work in the warehouse... are about to have to jump through all kinds of hoops with regard to security because one jack hole decided to steal.
Nobody should be stolen from. Thieves suck. Period.

(Seriously, I hope you have a great day. I have a cold spot in my heart for thieves. I've been a victim of their worthless butts too many times, both in my personal and professional life.)
It's quite possible that they had terrible luck. If I were going to steal a palette at a rest stop, I wouldn't verify the contents, I'd just unload and go.
Finding out that the guitars I stole were limited edition would make me assume they are now worth to me less than generic inexpensive guitars.
and much harder for the thieves to profit from. Most likely these went overseas as where their scarcity makes them attractive, even being stolen goods.
I used to work in a snowboard store in the '90's and Burton snowboards were hot on our local thieves list. They would steal snowboards and ship them to Japan where they would be sold for a ton of money because the demand and profit was so great that importers looked the other way...

The thieves wanted the candy, not the guitars, and when they discover the shipment was going to the retailer rather than coming from the retailer, they will return the guitars.

There was a similar looking guitar on MF's website listed as "Gibson Accordion Accessories." I called MF's customer service/claims adjusters/dirty tricks department to inquire but was told they only had 13 of them and they're all sold out.

I used to work in logistics for a major retailer. When the Xbox 360 came out (dating myself, here), one of our distribution centers received a 53' trailer with nothing but empty pallets and shrink wrap. Hearing the results of the investigation were way above my salary, but when we went in to see the trailer, I just thought "how on earth could a driver NOT be involved?"
Family is in the trucking industry. They've had at various times entire trailers stolen, thieves just getting into the yard and stealing the rig.
Other times, trailer doors busted and product taken (did you know that chocolate can be more expensive per ounce than gold?)
But companies/drivers back the trailer up to a wall, at the least, to safeguard cargo, when they can.
A truck stop or rest area or even a motel can be a problem with that.
As to how it's done, that may relate to why a limited amount of stuff was stolen - room to maneuver.
Assuming its was pulled with a jeep, the thief often has the jeep or a hydraulic pallet-lifter in their own trailer; they back up door to door and just move it across.
I got dinged for this post by the mods. Rightfully so, I have violated board rules - mea culpa.
However, some could have faulted me for using language inappropriately mild when it comes to describing thieves.
I hope Sweetwater gets their basses back undamaged... and the perps having been caught decompose slowly in a prison cell filled with digestive end products laden with dangerous microbial life.
