I don't normally ask anyone's opinion on these things because I don't really care what anyone else thinks, lol.......but it's a rainy Saturday. May as well seek some opinions.
I'm a working musician. I'm rebuilding my rig for 2019. After 30 years of using Boss pedals almost exclusively, I've decided to make a switch to MXR. I don't use a ton of effects but there's a need on occasion. For the past few years, it's been this:
TC Electronics PolyTune 2 > Boss overdrive ODB-3 > Boss Chorus CEB-3
I was bummed to learn that the PolyTune 3's display has been 'turned down'. I love the other improvements. I love the fact that the tuner now has the ability to remain active at all times. I like the buffer/true bypass option though I don't need a buffer with active basses. I do a lot of outdoor events, so I need to be able to see the display in direct sunlight. I could barely see it on the PolyTune 2 but I could see it. So after a few days of excruciating research, I've ordered the Turbo Tuner ST-300.
My new chain will be as follows:
Turbo Tuner ST-300 > MXR comp M87 > MXR OD M89 > MXR chorus M83 > MXR Microamp M133
I really like the PolyTune 2. It's fast tracking & the display is bright. I hope to find I've made the right decision with the Turbo Tuner.
I feel like I need peak limiter, which is the only reason I'm introducing the the compressor. I hope to be able to leave it on all the times, set it & forget it.
I didn't much care for the Boss ODB-3. I've been using it for over 10 years, though I've never really loved it. They're easy to get & I have a bunch of them. We always need spares. It's too much overdrive for me & almost sounds like an electric razor running in the background.
I DO like the Boss CEB-3. I have a number of these as well. I just felt it was time to make a full shift & try something new.
I had a Microamp years ago & it's a cool tool. I don't need it often but there are a few times per night I need to boost a passage here & there.
Any feedback or comments are welcome. As much as I'm looking forward to trying something new, I'm just as concerned that I'll hate it.
