SWR 8x10 Tower Replacement Driver?

I'm not very tech-savvy when it comes to speaker cabinets/speakers, etc. I know I have a blown speaker in my SWR Workingman's 8x10 tower. Since SWR is no longer manufactured, what are my options for replacement drivers? Will almost any 10" driver do? Thanks in advance for any answers and/or recommendations.

There are no recone shops within 100 miles of me, unfortunately. I'm guessing there's a sticker on the back of the speaker that'll give me ohm and wattage specs, and I'll just need to match them?

No, matching a driver to the others involves matching a lot more parameters than just the impedance and power handling characteristics. At best, you would need to get a second, matching driver so you wouldn't be mixing drivers in the same airspace -- and that's presuming the cab is subdivided into smaller chambers of two drivers each like an SVT 810, which I don't know to be the case.

Is there really no one who can do recones in the "Golden Triangle"? Are there any decent-sized music stores still left there? (I was thinking they could tell you where they get theirs done.) Even you had to ship it off, a recone would probably better than trying to buy multiple new drivers. Don't you ever cruise over to Houston for funsies? (Sorry...I guess funsies aren't happening as much as they once did. )

We only have three music stores here in SETX, one of which is a Guitar Center. I can check with them and see who they know. And yes, I do cruise to Houston from time to time, but it's about 80 miles from me so my opportunities for funsies are few and far between. Lol.

The manual says that it's an 8 ohm, 100 watt driver with a stamped steel frame. That's all it says.

If it’s a stamped frame, it’s almost certainly an Eminence part. You can call (or email) Eminence and ask which of their stock speakers would be the best choice. They will need the numbers off of the gray tag in order to help you.

Reach out to these guys with all the information listed on the speaker. They do great work, are reasonably priced, and do a quick turnaround. And you can ship the speaker to them. They’ll recone it and ship it back to you (if they can get the cone kit).

I bought one of these back in 2003 and owned it until 2007. For an 8x10 of that era it was surprisingly light. Around 100lbs if memory serves. That lack of weight makes me think it's not divided into separate air spaces like an 810e, but I can't say for certain.

OP, what they're gently trying to tell you is to remove the blown spkr so you can access the codes stamped on the frame or magnet. That will identify the driver.
Post a picture on this site and you'll be amazed at all the useful information members will post up.
Could save you time, money, and legwork.

I would never trust GC to give me accurate technical information about anything. The operative word is "trust."

I know it's a bit or work, but remove the bad driver (speaker). There are almost certainly codes on the frame that you can Google. Almost certainly that will reveal the manufacturer. You can also try eBay and Reverb to see if anyone is selling a NOS replacement part. It does happen.

I've had speakers from my Goliath cabs reconed by this company with great results: GLS Audio - Factory Direct Cables, Microphones, and Audio Accessories.
I'm sure there is an equivalent shop in Texas that can re-cone these speakers.

Another option is look for replacement speakers on websites such as reverb or eBay.
I've bought replacement speakers on eBay and have had no issues.

You have options.

Sometimes...the part number tag is under the black rubber strap around the magnet (if there is one).

Ok, the SWR part number is 130050 rev. E, but that's not going to mean anything since Fender has stopped supporting all SWR products. The Eminence part number is 101197, and if you ask them what in their stock line is closest to this in terms of cabinet tuning, they will be able to use that number to come up with options.
