SWR Mo' Bass Head Good or Bad?

Thanx for the correction! I didn't know he was playing full-time now. Good for him I like his bassplaying and his sound. Stupid me missed him when he was in the netherlands with Stevie Vai .. Give Bryan my regards (not that he knows me or anything ).

Anyways, back to the scheduled program
I feel the Mo' Bass power amp sounds better in bridge mode (as opposed to stereo). Is this normal or should there be no difference?

So this head could be used alone for gigging small to medium gigs (I could split the signal and also use my AMP-BH420 to one of my cabs on a big gig)? I have two pretty good cabs that have great sensitivity ratings. My cabs are:

Aguilar GS212 (2x12) 4 ohms
Aguilar GS112 (1x12) 8 ohms

The plan is the run the head in stereo. This would feed 400 watts to the GS212 and 250 watts to the GS112. Seems to me that 400 watts to a 2x12 and 250 watts to a 1x12 both with great sensitivity ratings (GS112 = 102 db @ 1W 1M and GS212 = 103 db @ 1W 1M), should be just fine, but please feel free to correct me... Thanks again all!!!!

I send Bryan fake regards anyway just to keep his rockstar ego in place - sending your real ones would be a big deal. I wish I as well could have seen one of the "Aching Hunger" shows, but that stupid ocean was a wee bit of a problem. Still, the second "series" of shows was taped, so a release is expected.

I can't speak about the Mo' Bass, but I notice a slight volume drop when in "Dual Mode" compared to full-range. I write it off to the inherent usage of "stereo" amping (I consider DM to be close enough in terms of volume issues) and not balancing my levels totally between my effected and clean cabs. The Mo' series are nothing if not tweaker amps.

Quadzilla, I'll keep my eyes out for a "Mo' Control" for you. You might want to try eBay (set you e-mail notification in your "My Favorite Searches" and you'll be notified whenever one pops up) for "SWR Mo' Control footpedal" or the "Wanted" forum right here.

I realize this thread is pretty old, but here’s my 2 cents. I’ve used both the head and preamp versions extensively. It was my main gigging amp paired with a SWR 6x10 cab for over a decade. While it certainly won’t keep up with a tube SVT CLASSIC it’s plenty loud for pretty much any venue. I’ve played gigs ranging from 50-5000 people and never once had a problem on stage. The effects are solid and all sound good, particularly the overdrive and octave. I used the tube OD lots at lower settings just to add some warmth when required. It does require a certain touch and gain staging to make sure the filter works right, but once setup works wonderfully. If you’re an ampeg svt fan, this may not be a good amp for you, but if you like a great clean sound with the option of onboard effects this is your ticket.

After bleed off of the extra gear in this pile. I walked away with:

(1) Mo'Bass 900 w/ original manual

(1) Mo'Control w/ cable

(2) SWR 6' Speakon cables

(1) Goliath III 4x10

All in mint (studio) condition for $30.00

I think it's the best amp rig I've every played in this price range!
