I drove out into the dark night last night to pick up a Golliath II Jr 210 cab that someone was selling on CL about an hour from home. I got there and the cab looked pristine. It was clearly a pre Fender SWR cab and I was impressed right off the bat. I noted that there was no horn attenuator on the back and assumed this was an early model.
You can see where this is going! After a quick listen with the seller playing his bass through the cab, I snatched it up for $250 thinking this was a great deal. Got her home, sat her next to my Super Redhead and suddenly realized that this cab has a little black piezo tweeter instead of a silver Fostex horn and it clearly says "Workingman's 210T" on the front plate.
Why I missed this I will never know. I was tired and wanted to start the long drive home and I simply missed the fact that I was buying something totally different then what I went there for. The seller was young and inexperienced and I don't think he intentionally set out to rip me off.
So who has compared this cab to the Golliath Jr?
Did I pay too much?
I can say that so far it does not sound as good as the Red Head speakers which I believe is a Golliath Jr so of course I may be answering my own question.
I would not have bought this cab for the price had I been paying attention. But I have to say it's still a pre Fender SWR cab, fits under the Red Head perfectly, is clearly built with the exact same cabinet materials as the Red Head and it looks like its never been used. I am unsure if its worth it at this point to try and sell it off and continue to look for a proper matching cab for my amp.
