sx bass question

ive come to realise as far as starter basses go sx have a reasonably good name on here,

and i like mine very much but theres one problem i have with sx guitars in general and its to do with their weight.

i find them very heavy so after standing up and playing for a while they get very uncomfertable.

has anybody else came across this? ive played affinity squiers and there still a little heavy but no where near as heavy as sx's

Yeah - that sometimes happens with cheap basses. Sometimes I guess the heavier wood is cheaper for them to get? Good thing is that if it really bothers you too much, you could always add some DIY weight relief holes! ;)

thats always a bad idea i guess i could just harden the f up,

but its not just the basses my brother has a strat copy and its heaps heavy for a guitar to, i think your right about the wood

I don't know... I was playing a Gibson Thunderbird the other day and that thing was pretty heavy... and not cheap either.

Look into a strap. Wide and padded. It will distribute the weight some. If you buy a nice one, it will last forever. I have a leather strap I bought in 1988 I still have and use on occasion. I keep it in my kit bag at gigs... backup!

I had been told long ago that heavier wood will produce a more solid and firm tone. No?

That used to be the thought by some, but I think it's been proven now that it doesn't really matter. It's most likely the age of the wood and type of wood rather than weight. I think years ago, light wood was considered equal to cheap wood, but now lots of very nice instruments are being made with very light wood.
