SX or Jay Turser?

With my Variax, I find myself always using the green Modj model. It's the only bass I have and it needs to be powered with the DI or run off of short-lasting batteries. I'd like a passive Jazz for not that much money.

My friend bought a Strat from SX and it plays and sounds very nice for a $99 guitar. I'm impressed.

However, I've also heard about Jay Turser, and they're on eBay, and they look purdier than SX.

If I want a cheap Jazz bass, do I get Jay Turser or SX?

i picked up a Turser JTB-401 a couple of months back & it smokes.... if the JTB-402 jazz is anything like the P,,, BUY IT

Hmmm...

I just played 2 Jay Tursers in a somewhat local music shop. One P One Jazz (used). I liked them both. Well except the headstock looks like a boat paddle to me....

I digress...

Both Tursers were fine basses, both made in China. SX is also made in China. I suspect from the same factory.

As you see I have a few SX basses, ya I love them! But I was considering Turser too....still may. GAS is a bitch....

They do that so they don't get sued, Sterling has the rights on a 4+1 headstock in that shape... I think.

I'd go with Turser, mostly because I own and have played Tursers before. Plus, I think you're more likely to find a local Turser dealer where you can fiddle around with real, live stuff before buying.

I've never owned or played an SX, but the Jay Turser violin bass I got is a mighty fine instrument for what I paid for it. I like it more than the Epiphone and Davision (I think that's the name) violin basses I've seen in stores. Hell, I saw an Icon B the other day that didn't seem as well put together as my Turser.

All you have to do is unscrew the last tuner, rotate it back into the position it belongs in, and screw it back down. That way no one gets sued. I'm sure it takes all of five minutes to fix, and then it would look perfectly normal.

Pretty clever on the part of the Jay Turser people if you ask me.

Same goes for the 4 stringers. Do a quick mod and it's a 3+1 and no one gets sued.

The love extends to the 51 P Bass knock off JTB-401. I own both it and the 51 RI from Fender and, despite what you might have been told, the Fender wins hands down in terms of neck, action and feel. BUT the Turser matches the tone, which is important for alot of people and at $100 bucks or so on EBAY, you aren;t risking much to try it.

I played that model of Turser, that was the jazz bass I eluded to earlier. The one with the bent metal (standard looking) bridge. It was a very nice bass.

As to the bridges being different, I dunno. Different production run? Upgraded bridge? Who knows.

The point is, for the amount of money wanted to buy one of these things, the quality is almost staggering. No it is not a Fender Custom Shop model, but it is very good. Again, Like I believe with SX, on Par with a MIM Fender.

If you want one, take the plunge and buy one. If you hate it, sell it...you'll get a fair buck in exchange for it...They don't stay for sale for too long, the used ones get bought up pretty quickly.

I currently have two Tursers, and two SX (and have owned a total of six SX). Both are great values for the money, and of comparable quality.
