SX Shortscale Mod

Here is my latest mods to my SX P short scale. The body is the original color. I had the pickguard painted blue but changed it to black. I used Krylon Fusion paint which works great. The neck was stripped with Citristrip. I would not recommend the spray on version of the stripper. It tends to clog. The fretboard 'orange' came of very easily. The headstock took 3 coats of stripper but was not too difficult. Total time on the neck was about 3 hours including the sanding.
The pickups are passive EMG Selects.

Dude, thats looks great. I have the short-scale CAR jazz on order from them. I'm unfamiliar with that 'Fusion' paint. Can you expand on it a bit? What's so special about it? I'm also becoming more intrigued by the whole Citristrip thing...

BassBob, good to see your post. I have a SX shorty (SJMB jag style) and was wondering how you like those EMG pups. What other mods have you made? Like you, I'm not crazy about the sticky orange tint on the neck.

Fusion is made just for plastic. The stuff is amazing and does not chip. Cost about $5.00 a can. Follow directions and dont rush the coats. Mine has 4 coats.
I love the sound of the EMG Selects and the price is pretty good. Check out My Photos tab on that link and you can see how I modded my SX SPJ

Looks great - :D

For those "less patient souls" (like me), you can use Kleen Strip and it will take of the orange in about 2-3 MINUTES (!) and leave the logo intact. It's nasty stuff though, wear goggles and gloves...and don't get it on your skin, burns like hell.

The stripper leaves some of the clear undercoat on but not much. In my case I sanded the neck with ultrafine and then rubbed Briwax on it including the fretboard.
The larger decal on the neck got somewhat messed up during the stripping so I sanded the remainder off. The upper decal was not harmed. They are strange decals. They don't feel like decals more like an imprint was made onto the wood directly.
