I have one, and it's well made except that the pickups are so weak it's unusable. Even adding a preamp didn't help.

Did you pull the pups? Reason I ask is that sometimes the coil and magnet assembly separates from the case, and drops to the bottom of the rout.

No, but I will.

Yes, and yes. I have had this bass since 2014, and now maybe can actually play it. Adjusting pickup height was just raising the covers, while the pickups were content to sit on the bottom of the routs. Stuck in some foam, and I haven't played it yet, but that was definitely the problem.

Years ago, someone added a magnet (Neodymium I believe) to the bottom of their SX J6 pickups and it really helped. I'm not sure if that's in this thread or one of its own.

Edit: Found it! Ultimate Essex 6er Neo pickup mod...

No, that wasn't the problem. Read subsequent posts if interested. Anyway, it's fixed now.

I ended up selling mine a few years ago. The weight was just too much for my shoulder and back (even with a fat padded strap) so it had to go.
