Tab reading argument

me and my friend arent sure like if 2 numbers are next to eachother on tabs do you hold both frets down at once or at diff times for example

do you do frets 3+2 and play the string or fret 3 play 2 play?

newbie question i know i say its 3 play 2 play but my friend keeps insisting you hold them both down

The way that's written it would be fret 32 but unless you've got a massive bass I doubt it If it was written:
|--3-2
It would mean play fret 3 then fret 2. If you hold down both frets on the same string you only play the one closest to the body of the guitar.

Basically play 3, then play 2 really fast afterwards.
