Hi everyone,
I'm a music grad from the UK that's moved from the more classical realms of piano and trumpet playing, to the more modern venture of playing bass guitar (I'm thoroughly enjoying the challenge!). Though I'm a confident reader of notation, for whatever reason, I find it considerably easier to sight read bass tabs. I am aware of the benefits of notation, and the drawbacks of tab, but I just find it much more logical to read for whatever reason, perhaps because I'm so reliant on visual fingerings on the fretboard. In any event, I really just wanted to inquire about whether there was a market for transcribing bass notation into tabs. Having played a few musical now, I have transcribed them into tab in order to read and learn them quicker - whilst time-consuming, it has been a strangely fun experience. I have transcribed the full Little Shop of Horrors show into tab, and feel there are surely people out there who might also benefit from this method of playing (especially as some styles, e.g. musicals, are solely notated, ostracising a lot of technically great players, who don't read music - perhaps you disagree with my use of the word 'great', but that's for another day).
Anyway, I have digressed, but in essence, I wanted to enquire about the size of this market - If I am transcribing anyway, I'd love to look into selling these scores (with the correct licenses etc.) or taking commissions for transcriptions, if this is useful to anyone.
All the best, and I look forward to hearing some opinions!
