Taking a break

I know we all can agree that we should practice. I have had those times where I spend the hours I have just practicing. Then I was not able to play for about 5 days. I came back and played and everything sounded better than it ever had. My amp, my bass, my playing. I realized breaks are okay. Especially if you get into a rut with your creativity.

I take off days all the time and feel it helps the things I have learned to set in. I never notice the developing of muscle memory unless it is from taking a day or two off and when coming back to the instrument, being able to play the passages more effortlessly. If I just practice every day, I will start overthinking things and not really let the things I have learned set in.

I agree. Taking breaks can spark your creativity. Practice routines can certainly make your playing sound.. "routine". Though, this kind of practicing is definitely beneficial.

Taking breaks can also make you enjoy your instrument much more. I left my instrument in Ohio while I went on a 7 day vacation in South Carolina. When I returned, I basically made love to it.
