Tal Wilkenfeld w/Jeff Beck (reunion rumors)

With Jeff Beck set to appear this Saturday on NBC's SNL (along with Mick Jagger, Foo Fighters and Arcade Fire) and rumors circulating that Vinnie Collaiuta and Tal are both on board (I know that Tal has tweeted of an east coast reunion and flight to NYC) - the only shoe I'm waiting to drop is the particulars.
What I've read is that Jagger (who is hosting the show) will be performing a set with each of the other performers, which leaves me to believe that Vinnie and Tal will be Jeff's band members with Mick singing.
Furthermore, I'm REALLY hoping that this is a prelude to a Jagger/Beck tour. Their performance together at the White House was excellent - they compliment each other quite well - better than this Jeff Beck fan expected.

Now can Tal pull off a Gimme Shelter duet like Fergie? My SpasticFingers are crossed. :hyper:

There's a bunch of photos featuring her NYC adventures that were posted on (I believe) her FB page - including one with Vinnie, Tal, Jeff and (of all people..) Les Claypool.

Unfortunately, it seems that Vinnie is booked through August with Sting's tour, and The Rolling Stones seem to a source of persistent rumor practicing somewhere in the NYC tristate area. One source is telling me that the SNL performance will be followed by a Stones tour that will feature Jeff performing WITH them (including Wyman and Watts) and feature Arcade Fire and Foo Fighters as alternating opening acts. Another source says that the Stones will make a surprise appearance on SNL as well. All I know is that I really wanted to see a Jagger-Jeff-Tal-Vinnie tour.

Just read her Wiki. Off the top of my head, she's performed with artists as varied as Prince, ?Love and the Roots to Dumpstafunk, The Allman Brothers Band, Steve Lukather and Jackson Browne. I don't believe Vinnie was involved with any of those (although he DID appear as a guest at the most recent Jackson Browne shows last weekend, but Tal's done other shows with JB sans Colaiuta.

I saw him at MSG for the 25th Aniv. R&R HOF show, sitting behind the stage. From that vantage point I was able to see Mick's pre-show preparations. It was more calisthenics than anything else - the man is in remarkable shape for his age and if you didn't see the PBS airing of Red White & Blues - he and Jeff Beck seem to have a wonderful musical chemistry. I hope they make use of both of their talents this evening.

Word is that Jagger will be performing with the 3 musical guests and its all related to a Rolling Stones tour that is already being rehearsed.
I've read that Jeff will be performing w/the RS on that tour, and that Watts and Wyman will be rejoining them - this could all be nothing but rumors.. we'll see. The other 2 musical guests are supposedly set to be alternating opening acts (this part I find hardest to believe - would either of them really need to do this to further their careers???). Also mentioned somewhere is that the RS will appear this evening - also hard to believe.

This might sound silly, but the reason i picked up the Bass after 20+ years of playing the guitar was because of Tal's solo on "Cause We've Ended As Lovers" at the Crossroads Guitar Festival 2007. Her playing, interaction with the drummer, facial expressions, just the whole thing was inspiring.



I am sure many of you have seen this. Try to keep any boob comments to a minimum ;)

She did?
Carlock is hip at the moment so I am not all too surprised.
Plus, he had just worked with Wayne Krantz who If I'm correctly informed was also involved on the Wilkenfeld disc
She is on some tunes on his new one too, which I found surprising an not. :)

Saw the SNL. Jagger got 3 tunes (more than usual but hey, he's Mick), different back-up band each time. First was Arcade Fire, then Foo Fighters, then Jeff Beck. Fire and Foo fighters played Stones covers but Beck was a blues with Jagger written lyrics (basically a blues jam). Tal looked a little edgier than she has in the past. She still had her signature locks but she had knee high bossy boots and slightly sort of a dominatrix them to her wardrobe (but not too overt). My take was she's at least looking age appropriate. The performances in the past with Beck have made me feel a little creepy like the old lechers found a young girl to jam with.

As to her playing, it was Tal's usual tasty rifs but in my opinion, a little too busy for a simple blues tune.

I love Tal's Sadowsky (all Sadowskys for that matter) but for some reason I hate the straight cut at the top of the fretboard. If he would just round those corners off a little it would be a tremendous aesthetic improvement IMO.
