for the sake of your marriage.. dont do it. also, t-birds have all sorts of problems i.e. neck dive, poor balance, 20 frets, drug abuse (i.e. nikki sixx). they also attract rodents.
ok that made me laugh!!! i wish i could say my marriage would be affected but alas, i am the last single guy on the planet.
the rodents thing scares me however. and i hate the idea of active pu's
Wow, i'd love to have one of those, but in here those will cost a lot more (if they are available) and anyway there are basses that i like more, but it sure is gorgeus
i think it's prety nice but i'd rather have a mahogany TBird as well as there's no way i'd pay that kind of money for one. to be honest for that kind of sound i'd try and get a FenderBird made; it would be WAY more unique. the TBird has become nearly commonplace since they've been made by Epi.
how about size? are you big enough to hold one without it looking like it's holding you?
I've been gassing for a Rickenbacker for over 20 years...I still don't think I'm worthy of having a bass like that yet. If I get into a good band and would really use it then it would be worth the money. Having a $1400 bass just to noodle at home is a little bit silly unless you are recording hit songs.
I have to agree that that's a little much for a blemished Gibson. If you're into the Thunderbird thing, you could get a brand new Blackbird for less than that. Of course then you do run into the whole Nikki Sixx thing.
You're an idiot if you pay that much for a blemished (nice word for reject) bass. Besides, your wife will meet the uber hot UPS driver that is here temporarily from Scandinavia if you buy this bass. He walks in slow motion, the wind always blows his hair just right and he speaks with an accent that makes women melt in their tracks. Go ahead, order it.

Either buy it on ebay new for $400 less or if you want the sound pretty close pick up the Les Paul Doublecut (Money bass) there for around $600. I have a Tbird and a Money and the Money is right on the money. It's got the balance and upper fret access the bird lacks. Played it last night at rehearsal instead of my G&L SB2 and it cut through great between two guitarists. They both liked the look, too. IMHO the best Gibby bass deal ever, and I'm an old school Fender-type player from waaaay back. I loves me the Money.
BTW, the zebra is a great looking 'bird and I'll probably take the plunge when they hit $1200 on the bay (MF had them at that for a stoopid deal of the day). They are NOT active. I think the Blackbird is the worst looking, over-priced 'bird but I like it's case and have that for my satin 'bird to repose in.
Ignore the uninformed advice in the above posts, especially the one about bass-influenced drug use. Look on the bright side- every time drugs do in a bass player in a famous band a position opens up.

Don't do it, man, for the love of God! Unless you're in a Motley Crue or UFO tribute band of course. Then by all means, buy it.
