My Samson wireless just packed up on me, I think it was an Airline? (not got the box to hand to check). Basically the aerial on the bug has snapped inside so it cuts out randomly now, so I can't use it. Thus, I need a replacement, so I'm hoping someone can name a decent model that doesn't lose too much tone (the Samson always sounded nice to me!). Price range up to £150, hit me with ideas folks!

I hate to say it, but like most things, you get what you pay for. Save some money and get a Sennheiser or a Shure. I have had a Sennheiser for about 11 years and have never had a problem with it. I think the list price was around $1,100 US new and I paid $350 US from RMC Audio Direct.

I've had quite a bit of sucess with my Sennheiser Freeport (picked it up for about £75 at a sound control sale), think you could get it for that price or cheaper on ebay these days.

It did have a fair bit of tone suck when playing guitar, but I honestly never noticed any losses when playing bass. But my tone is heavily influenced by my amp, so in a crystal clear, straight to board setup, it may have been pretty sucky, but again, I certainly never noticed it.

Have no doubt that the expensive systems are the way to go, but the live gigs I played, sound quality can often be a bit of a compomise.

Excellent, thanks for the suggestions. For the moment I'm borrowing my friends Samson wireless (it's a big hefty thing with a MASSIVE battery pack on it), but also costs about 400 quid so a bit out of my budget! lol.

I have one of those also - been gigging it for around 3 years, probably around 250 gigs on it, and it's been great... I also picked up a used XDS-PLUS, and it's pretty good, too...

The 'E' bass string is about 42hz. and the 'B' string is about 31hz

Line 6 products go down to 10hz.

Most other companies only go down to 45/50hz.

A no-brainer for me.......

You'll have trouble finding speaker cabinets that do much below 40Hz

I'm Happy with My Sennheiser FreePort. It's not great but it's clean and has good power.

I haven't problems with losing tone or volume and have yet to experience any signal interference.

My only complaint is it's plastic. They should make this gear a bit sturdier.

But for $140 bucks - I'll deal with it.
