Tanglewood Curbow, help and advice please.

Hello there.

I've recently been gifted a Tanglewood Curbow, which is a nice situation to be in. It feels nice to play but I'm new to active basses. It is far quieter than my Fender and my Squier (both with SD Quarterpounders), and I'm not 100% sure what each of the knobs and the toggle switch do.

Any wisdom, experience and advice greatfully received.

I found this online. Depending on the year it was made, here are the controls:
"The bass has volume, and treble, mid and bass tone controls (tone knobs have a centre detente). Early Curbows, such as this, have a Mighty Mite soapbar pickup and a Bartolini Mk-1 EQ circuit that remains fully active when the slap switch is engaged. Later Curbows have Bartolini pickups and a preset EQ when the slap switch is on (the tone controls are defeated). The slap switch, for those unfamiliar with the idea, is intended to change the overall EQ, mids are cut and bass and treble are boosted."

Thanks for that. I'm going to spend some time with my headphones on and try and work out which is which.

Someone else suggested getting a better quality battery to increase the volume of the bass. Seems unlikely to me, but I'll give it a go. If it works, great, if not, I can rule it out.
