Tapes to Rounds

Have a project coming up that needs roundwounds.

I currently have 50-65-85-105 La Bella Black Tapes on my Precision.

Love the tension and flex so want something similar in a round. Should I go for 40-60-75-95 or 40-60-80-100 gauge?

It's actually the other way around. The RCBs are a little firmer in feel than the SBs, so 40-55-75-95 for RCB and 40-60-80-100 for SB.

If you want to keep to labella there's always Rx series. Aside from the defective D string I got they sounded and felt good. I'm not sure if nickel or stainless will be better for you but I'd try both and see what happens. Strings that seem to be lower tension and flexible are Dunlop super bright, sit foundations, sadowsky blue label, Fodera strings, DR high beams, thomastic jazz rounds. They all sound different from each other so I'd do some YouTube and hear some demos to see what's got the vibe you're looking for. Good luck and hopefully you pick something you like first time around.

The light gauge 50-105 set is similar to a set of standard rounds 35-90 in tension. The D'A tape strings are round wound construction covered by the tape. The best way to compare the difference is to simply take the tape off and see what you think.

EB Extra Slinky (2835 — the blue pack) is a pretty flexible feeling and budget-friendly set of 40-95 hex core rounds that is pretty widely available (at least it is in my part of the world! YYMV)
