Tattoo advice needed

On my center chest I have this tattoo of the Sacred Heart and for the better part of this year I have been giving some thought to getting the names of several of my deceased loved ones tattoo around it. First how do you think it would look intergrated into the existing tattoo and second should I use their first names IE Eileen or John or Mom or Grandpa ? Thanks

I think the names would look good above or below the praying hands. As for the names, it is more traditional to have their name and birth/death year, but I think it would mean more to you if you put on there what You called them.

I'm in the process of getting my wife's name (it's hebrew) spelled out in Hebrew on the lower part of my sleeve...

I want to add my father's name and mother's name somewhere over my heart... I would use their full names as well...

This is just what I want to do... but I can see the nickname thing, too..

I'd do bluebirds with a banner above the sacred heart...like just below your collar bones.

I had a roomate with a sacred heart in the same place...except that it was rayed with old fashioned square cut nails instead of rays of light. He had a wreath of thorns a'la the 'crown of thorns around his neck at the upper shoulders.

If it were me, I'd either add a banner in a similar style to the one on the bottom where theres a bit of space above the praying hands, or do a really flowy cursive around the top in an arch. The font is a pretty standard cursive for tattoos, and I couldn't find the example I wanted, but I've seen it in many an "in loving memory" tattoo. If you go the banner route a longer space on the bottom, and a slightly smaller one on top would allow a name and date. If you have no idea what I mean, I'll try and resize the paint example I made so I can post it. Are you going to the same artist for the new ink?

I would go with whatever I felt comfortable with, afterall it is your chest and your ink. If a nickname is more sentimental to you, but you're concerned about the look of it then what about getting the full name with nickname in "" in the middle of the full name?

Actually, a buddy here at TB pointed me in the right direction... as well, the president of my union local is Jewish and would take anything to his Church/Temple to make sure it's correct..

Yeah, it's kinda of scary getting the wrong thing, but I already have some Hebrew on my chest... that was confirmed..

Thanks for the example. Yes It would be the same artist, I wouldent let anyone else tattoo me.

Thats good. The same artist will (obviously) not have a probem matching the styles if you go for banners. Let us know where you end up putting them, and if you don't mind sharing, a picture would be great!

As a side note though, I might lean towards another banner or two as opposed to arching the letters above just because the two words are uneven in length, and in a mostly symmetrical piece, that'd distract me.

Tattoos are a way of showing the world something that means a lot to you. I think you should have the names tattooed the way you called your loved ones. If you put the full names, it'll look like a headstone and a little morbid IMO.

Yeah I tottaly agree, I would be very proud to wear Mom and Grandpa on my chest.
