TC Electronic Black Smith 1600W amp (NAMM 2011)

so, I got to play the beast at NAMM this year. and let me tell you, that 1600 watts, is awesome.

even at the relatively low volume required by NAMM security, it was impressive. the massive power just gave this thing all sorts of headroom. the tone just soared.

and becuase it's made with the same class d technology as the RH450, it's only 16 pounds. i could hold it over my head with one hand if need be.

truly a great amp. but it's not for everyone. it's built specifically for those metal heads who feel like they just gotta have something big. and something that looks big. most metal bassists don't want the RH on their stage becuase it looks 'dinky' not huge, heavy and powerful. even though it IS powerful.

16 Pounds! Amazing! If they came out with a two rack space model at 800 watts with that front end and at around 10 pounds... I would be in serious trouble!

The specs actually say 26.5lbs, so we'll see when it finally arrives. I noticed today that several European shops actually have stock. I sure hope that the Canada ship date is sooner rather than later as I am near the front of the line.

you do realize that the RH450 is an under rated 450 watt amp that only weighs between 8 and 9 pounds right?

And that sucker matches every bit of power and volume that my old 300 watt tube SVT had.

that being said.. the blacksmith.. didnt' even feel like more than 20 lbs. but then. I am a bigger buy that is used to four things. Artillery projectiles, heavy warwicks, throwing women around the room and being asked to lift heavy **** no one should ever have to lift.

If you think the blacksmith is to expensive, you might want to give the new RH750 amp a shot. They have the same features including the tweetertone curcuit.

In Denmark it's priced like the RH450 before the RH750 came out. I tried the RH750 today - very nice amp.

In automotive circles a "halo car" is the flagship model. For example, the new Porsche 918 Spyder has attracted the attention of a lot of car enthusiasts, but as the price is out of reach for many, Porsche will sell a lot of 911s, Boxsters and other models that are within reach instead. A percentage of these buyers might not have looked at Porsche if the 918 hadn't caught their eye. This is referred to as a "halo effect" and seems to apply in this case.
