TC Electronic Mojomojo as a clean boost?

I'd like a decent clean boost pedal for when I occasionally get a solo and for when I'm doing solo bass stuff with the looper etc. I know TC stuff is great but has anyone got any experience using the Mojomojo as a clean boost? It would be handy to have as I could use it as an all out OD if I ever need it. But I'm wondering if it could be clean enough to use as a boost? I guess you would turn the drive all the way down and the level up a bit?

No, it's never clean plus it has a baked in tone.

If you want a clean boost that can do overdrive get the TC Spark Booster (not the mini).

Interesting thanks for that. Out of interest why do you say not the spark mini?

If I wanted a clean boost on bass, I would invest in a really good preamp like the MXR M81 Bass preamp. It's got a ton of very clean gain, a three band EQ and a semi parametric mids. Plus a DI if you need one. The problem with trying to get a clean boost out of an overdrive, is that they don't tend to do both roles very well. You can get a cleanish boost out of an overdrive pedal but it's not it's primary function and getting one that does clean boost and great overdrive is tricky. One usually has to dial in a specific setting to get a clean tone or a specific setting to get the right overdrive tone. So my advice is to get two pedals, an overdrive that sounds and behaves like you want it to and get a clean boost with all the features you want too.

Interesting thanks for that. Out of interest why do you say not the spark mini?

The mini is pure clean and does not do any overdrive. It's great if you just want a simple clean volume boost though.

Yeah the M81 is a great utility pedal!
