TC Spectracomp Tone Prints

I tried Compress less , Captain East,,Fed Comp and now I'm using ButterKnife.
I stay around 9:00 on the dial and this particular toneprint sounds really good to me even though when I watched the video it did not move me that much. I wish there was a way to make the vol of on/off more the same when using the tone prints. I don't always want compression and when I turn it off then there is nothing.That's annoying.I have a trilogic preamp on my board that makes up for the loss in gain when I turn off the compressor, but that's not ideal.

You can modify the toneprint to take off auto gain and change gain levels.

Plug your pedal into your PC/Mac and phone/iPad at the same time. Bring up the toneprint editor in edit mode on pc. Now beam the wanted toneprint to the pedal with your phone/iPad and all the paramarers will show up for that toneprint. Now take screenshots and you can then copy them when you make your own toneprint and save it. You have to make your own because if you just edit the original tone it will jump back to old parameters when you beam it.

Now you can view all of the parameters of the toneprints you've been curious about.
I also used the butterknife as the base of my own toneprint because it was easily my favorite.

I have a rather bright and gainy setup and most of the time use overdrive to some degree. I needed to tame the treble some and after trying lots and lots...

It's great, doesn't boost volume too much and doesn't fatten up the bottom too much either. Just bringing down the harshness.
I play mostly with pick for this setup, with finger play it does get fat and juicy this toneprint.

Just tried this one and it's my favourite so far. Pedal only arrived today so I've still a lot of experimenting to do.

Any of you having issues with the toneprint app (android)? Since yesterday the app isn't showing the SpectraComp at all...every other pedal, which I don't have, are listed. Tried reinstalling the app with no luck.

The SpectraComp was back up on the app today. HelixPhaser and some others are still down. TC says they are working to fix a server issue.

I’m playing around with the 9901 Funk, Captain East and NeilsenComp.

I’m using the Captain East toneprint exclusively, I haven’t even tried any others. Does anyone know if there’s a toneprint that reproduces a Diamond Bass Comp?

You don't need to connect the iPhone to the SpectraComp to beam a TonePrint. You just move the speaker of your phone close to your bass pickup and touch the send button in your phone. Check this video for a demo of the process:

Im seeking a compressor pedal and (half) considering the Spectracomp. I just wish they'd built it like the HOF 2 and Flashback, which I have and enjoy. You have more physical buttons to switch between stored toneprint presets.

Can I ask owners of the Spectracomp, - there's no way to switch between presets, other than using a phone app or plugging into a pc? The dial on top is just a dry /wet blend, yes?
You can create your own settings in the software though, yes?
But in a gig situation or our studio with no wifi / data , it wouldn't be possible to switch settings....

Anyone bought the Spectracomp and faced these issues?

There don't seem to be any compressors that can store & switch presets, which is a shame. I would have thought that a compressor would be the one pedal that could do with this facility?

Don’t have one anymore, but...
If you make your own preset and know how to tweak, you could possibly map whatever 4 parameters(i think it is?) to the knob. So then have two settings at opposite turn of the knob.

I'm new to the spectracomp, late to this party, and this is obviously old news, but this is great ! Seems you don't even need to screenshot now, just create new (from any template), beam in the one you want with your phone, save , fiddle, save as, fiddle etc. Turned what I was finding to be a really good comp into my definite #1.

I tried the default compressor. Way too much gain. I just beamed in Compressless. Will see how that works. May also try the Nathan East tone print. I don't need the added gain.

Anyone having issues with the PC app? Mine won't connect to the pedal. It did once but now it won't, so I just used my iPod Touch to beam the Tone-Print.

I play J basses and like the Marcus Miller sound. Fingerstyle and slap. I like the Butterknife tone print . At about an 8th of a turn it gives me a significant improvement of clarity definition and punch. None of the other toneprints do what Butterknife does.

I know it's an old thread, but thought I'd chime in after trying a few of these.
I play a variety of instruments on a regular basis, primarily an early Pedulla Buzz with J-J Barts, a P-Bass, and a Stingray with an Alnico pickup. Low action, and mostly a light touch, although I like to dig in for a little grind every now and again. I rarely slap with my current band. Mostly fingerstyle.

For my style of play, and for as often as I change instruments I found "Compress Less" by Melvin Lee Davis to be the perfect Tone Print!
